Rating: 4.7 / 5

Andromeda Botanic Gardens occupies around six acres of terraced cliffside above Bathsheba on the dramatic east coast of Barbados. Created by renowned horticulturist Iris Bannochie from 1954 and now run as a botanic garden and education centre, it holds one of the region's most important plant collections, with orchids, heliconias, hibiscus, palms, bromeliads and cacti from the Caribbean and beyond. Self-guided trails loop through the garden with sweeping views over the Atlantic, and there is a small gift shop and café on site.

About culture in Barbados

Barbados has over 400 years of recorded history, from Amerindian settlement through British colonialism to its 2021 transition to a republic. The UNESCO World Heritage Garrison Historic Area, Harrison's Cave, and St. Nicholas Abbey are must-visit cultural sites. The island's food culture, calypso music tradition, chattel house architecture, and rum heritage make it one of the most culturally rich islands in the Caribbean.
