Cherry Tree Hill

Scenic View · North · St. Andrew

Rating: 4.6 / 5

Cherry Tree Hill in St. Andrew is one of the most photographed viewpoints in Barbados, sitting around 850 feet above sea level on a ridge above St. Nicholas Abbey. A shaded avenue of mahogany trees opens suddenly onto a sweeping panorama of the rugged Scotland District, the Atlantic east coast and the surf at Bathsheba far below. The name comes from the West Indian cherry trees that once lined the road. It is an easy stop on any north-coast drive and pairs well with visits to Morgan Lewis Windmill and St. Nicholas Abbey.

About culture in Barbados

Barbados has over 400 years of recorded history, from Amerindian settlement through British colonialism to its 2021 transition to a republic. The UNESCO World Heritage Garrison Historic Area, Harrison's Cave, and St. Nicholas Abbey are must-visit cultural sites. The island's food culture, calypso music tradition, chattel house architecture, and rum heritage make it one of the most culturally rich islands in the Caribbean.
