Barracuda

Species · Year-Round · Inshore & Offshore

Rating: 4.6 / 5

Great barracuda are caught year-round in Barbados waters, both inshore off piers and rocks and offshore on trolling spreads. Aggressive predators that hit hard and run dirty, they're a lot of fun on lighter tackle. Average fish run 10-30lbs. They're rarely eaten locally because of the small but real risk of ciguatera poisoning from reef-sourced toxins — most are released. Expect one or two on a typical half-day offshore.
