Rating: 4.7 / 5

The Barbados Sailing Association oversees dinghy and keelboat racing on the island, taking advantage of the near-perfect conditions created by the steady south-easterly trade winds. The racing season runs broadly from January to July, with fleets including Optimist, Laser, Hobie Cat and a strong keelboat class sailing out of the Barbados Yacht Club and Barbados Cruising Club at Carlisle Bay. Mount Gay Round Barbados Race Series in January is the highlight of the year, drawing international crews. Visitors are often welcomed as crew on race nights.

About sports in Barbados

Cricket is Barbados. Kensington Oval has hosted World Cup finals, and the island has produced some of cricket's greatest players including Sir Garfield Sobers and Hayley Matthews. Beyond cricket, Barbados offers horse racing at the historic Garrison Savannah, world-class surfing at Bathsheba, polo at Holders, rugby, football, and the Sol Rally — one of the biggest motorsport events in the Caribbean.
