Rating: 4.7 / 5

Sport is woven into Bajan school life, and every primary and secondary school participates in NAPSAC and BSSAC competitions across cricket, football, athletics, swimming, netball, basketball and more. Sports Day is a national institution, with whole communities turning out to cheer their kids, and national squads pick heavily from top school performers. Cricket in particular remains the island's first love, nurtured at school level from an early age. Inter-school sport is a key part of the Bajan sporting pipeline and community calendar.

About sports in Barbados

Cricket is Barbados. Kensington Oval has hosted World Cup finals, and the island has produced some of cricket's greatest players including Sir Garfield Sobers and Hayley Matthews. Beyond cricket, Barbados offers horse racing at the historic Garrison Savannah, world-class surfing at Bathsheba, polo at Holders, rugby, football, and the Sol Rally — one of the biggest motorsport events in the Caribbean.
