Garrison Savannah Racecourse

Horse Racing · Saturdays · UNESCO Site

Rating: 4.8 / 5

Garrison Savannah is the historic home of horse racing in Barbados, set inside the UNESCO-listed Garrison Historic Area of Bridgetown. The Barbados Turf Club, established 1905, stages around three racing seasons a year across roughly 25 meetings, with Saturday fixtures drawing lively crowds of families, grooms and punters. The highlight is the Sandy Lane Gold Cup, the Caribbean's premier international thoroughbred race, run annually in March. Low entry fees, a shaded grandstand and a picnic-friendly infield make it one of the most affordable days out on the island.

About sports in Barbados

Cricket is Barbados. Kensington Oval has hosted World Cup finals, and the island has produced some of cricket's greatest players including Sir Garfield Sobers and Hayley Matthews. Beyond cricket, Barbados offers horse racing at the historic Garrison Savannah, world-class surfing at Bathsheba, polo at Holders, rugby, football, and the Sol Rally — one of the biggest motorsport events in the Caribbean.
